Art Scraps: Studio Sneak Peek
As a part of my creation process of larger pieces, I create smaller pieces of art on leftover paper or canvas to test out colors, mixtures, designs, and other ideas. Mainly, I don’t like to be wasteful because art supplies are expensive! Back when I was living in Nashville, I had a large, awkward wall in my living room that I wanted to create an art piece for. I had the idea to hang scrap art pieces like a floating installation—and the rest is history!
My art scraps installation. Nashville, 2024.
I started making all kinds of little art scraps and fell in love with the process. Honestly, I enjoy making these little scraps more than large canvases. It’s freeing to think of them as “scraps” rather than working through the pressure of trying to create some meaningful masterpiece.
They really are like a kaleidoscope of joy and fun.
Some art scraps in progress
Every time I create art, I have an intention in mind—whether it’s something God has been speaking to me in my own life or something I feel during the creation process. With each scrap, I name it and write down a fragment of what I am sensing during and after its creation. It’s not always spiritual or faith-based—sometimes I make art because I’m working through my emotions, and the piece reflects that process.
Since I left Nashville, I don’t have my art installation up anymore. Instead, I have a giant box full of art scraps. My friends always told me I should offer these in my store, and I just never got around to it. Until now!
Looking for a fun surprise? These "scrap" bundles contain 5 art pieces, ranging in various sizes from 1X1 up to 10X10 inches. They can be on canvas, archival paper, or other textiles—with a variety of mediums like watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oil, soft pastel, or oil pastel—it's a surprise!
On the back of each scrap, you'll find a note or poem and a name for the piece, along with the date it was created. These notes represent the heart behind each scrap and the intention with which it was made. Keep one for yourself and give the rest away to whoever comes to mind—or display them all together for an eclectic art wall.
You can choose what kind of notes you’d like to receive:
Faith-based: Scriptures, inspired words, hymns, prayers
Poetry: Musings, passing thoughts, poetry, lyrics, found notes
Random: An encouraging mixture of all of the above
(Pictures shown as an example of previous art scraps. You will not receive what is shown in the product pictures but will be sent 5 art scraps of varying mediums and sizes. We do our best to include both small and large in each bundle—and mindfully pick the bundle for your order at the time of order.)
**Please note each bundle is unique and one of a kind; no two bundles will be the same**
Now you can collect these art scraps in a fun mystery bundle! They come in all shapes and sizes—and can be a unique gift for a friend. You can also frame them or hang them. I like to hang small art in large, matted frames for an upscale look.
