This was my first painting in my Morse code series, where I translate poems and phrases into Morse code. This painting decodes the phrase "the silence is deafening," from the poem below.

THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING
even if I spoke
you’d only respond in a language
I don’t know
translation is wasted on the lonely
still—
I send out little messages—like birdsong
fluttering hopeless things
wet little letters on parchment
floating up to the sky
they blink out of sight
like a defective satellite
but even that should explain
everything
