parted waters
Medium: Mixed media (acrylic, gouache, oil stick, oil pastel) on raw canvas
Dimensions: 6 X 6 thick canvas in 7 X 7 frame
I fell in love with this bright blue piece, which jumps right off the wall. With the walnut floater frame giving a deep black edge, it feels like a neon explosion of the sea. The name of this painting came to me when I was using oil stick and oil pastels, creating a large divide down the middle. Like the great ocean was splitting in two with one simple mark, almost like the story of Exodus and the Nile River in the Bible. I often think of that story, what it must have been like to walk between columns of all-consuming, churning water. So that's what inspired this peice.
Accompanying Poem:
PARTED WATERS
exodus—
as if you could wash away
the past with one casual sweep
the chess pieces tumbling to the floor
of a cleared board
as if you could blot out ink with ink
but the dividing waters of choice
still remain
a one-way ticket to the wilderness
Additional Details:
Oil pastel, sprayed with fixative, but will still smudge (will be shipped wrapped in glassine)
Natural real wood floating frame, walnut
Ready to hang (comes with hanging wire)
Thick frame (1.75 inches) for elevated finish
Comes with Certificate of Authenticity
Signed on front and back
