For a while, I hated this painting. It sat in the liminal space between art I wanted to discard and art I couldn't give up on (mostly because I'm too frugal to throw anything away). I kept layering acrylic and oil until the painting found its own song. I tried to cover up the initial oil markings I made early on that I hated, but they kept bleeding through the acrylic washings, until they all melded together in a harmony I appreciate. My favorite part about paintings is when they go from something I hate to blossoming into a piece that stands on its own.

LIMINAL
my favorite music
is the sound of leaving
the breath between—
the sound snow makes
while falling
still oblivious to its demise
the violent act of melting
and becoming something
new

Oil pastel, sprayed with fixative, but will still smudge (will be shipped wrapped in glassine)
