There are many gardens in the Bible, from Genesis to the Gospels to Revelation—every major turning point contains a garden, a moment of death and rebirth. I often find myself thinking of these gardens and painting abstracted gardens. This is "another garden" in a long line of garden paintings. This one has an acrylic wash base with oil stick and charcoal overtop, varnished on textured canvas.

at the edge of another garden,
there was another tree—
fall
ending
beginning
the sounds, a chorus of home
just treefall in the forest
and then
there was you
a split crimson mouth
of lipstick teeth
one bite
is all it ever took
you would smile at me
if you knew how
