I'm obsessed with both myths and theoretical frameworks. This painting is an exploration of our varying ideas about the strings that influence, tie, and bind us. In the Greek myth of Ariadne, she gives Theseus a ball of thread to make it back out of the Labyrinth. In Chinese mythology, the red thread of fate ties lovers together. And String Theory proposes that our world is made up of tiny, vibrating strings or loops instead of fixed points. I'm fascinated by the idea that life is all one big tapestry, and each one of us are a little string on it, so this painting expresses that notion of one golden thread that ties all our lives together.

One of my “art scraps” series, where I paint mini paintings on scraps of paper or canvas from around my studio. Canvas or paper may contain slight tears, creases, or splotches of paint due to their “scrap” nature, which you’ll be able to see in the listing photos.
