Seek // December
The world is a very big place, and yet, how small we seem to make it.
In the midst of transition, my poem of the month project is coming to a close. But the project of life continues. What are you seeking? What are you looking for? Will you find it where you are?
Seek first the kingdom, and all will be added.
A constant echo in my mind.
You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face Lord, do I seek.”
About the poem
I’m a fibre artist as well as a painter, and I’m always fascinated by the art of tapestries. I love weaving and yarn—just one tug of a thread can pull apart a masterpiece. And such is my life right now. Pull the right thread and everything unravels.
So often we are in the weeds and forget to look at the bigger picture, the larger story. This year is coming to a close, but in hindsight, I can see the echoes of what God meant from January till now.
Much different than what I thought in the moment.
About the art
I wanted something red. Not quite red. Carmine. Almost purple, but not. Then I wanted lines. Not straight lines, but script-like marks. And I wanted them to seem like they breathed on the art. And then I made like 5 different versions and nothing seemed to work. So I took out some thread and embroidered the paper instead. And then that one didn’t photograph well, so here’s what I ended up with, which is nothing like I’ve just described.
This one kind of looks like fire and wood to me. With a thread, so it works.
The end of an era
This journey has come to an end. I’m happy to say this is a project I was able to finish.
Finish well.
